Thanks for Everything Fredo!

Fredo Orjuela - OfficeList

One of our staff members is leaving OfficeList to pursue one of his dreams, starting up his own company.

An unforgettable account manager who made his way to the top, by earning the trust of his clients and the friendship of the rest of the team.

Fredo Orjuela joined OfficeList a year ago, since then he has made us laugh with his comments and we’ve enjoyed some good times.

Fredo made sure he posted his name in our Hall of Fame by closing one of the biggest deals in OfficeList history. He will also be remembered for his attempts to be a good soccer player and his "Moves like Jagger".

Fredo will be missed, but we wish you the best in your new projects.

All the best!

Oh no! It’s Friday 13th!

That freaky day is finally here. Only three days during this year will be Friday 13th (January, April and July) and then we’ll have some peace until 2015.

Since ancient times 13 has been an unlucky number. At age 13 kids become teenagers and what can be worse than going into that horrible time were we use braces! There are pimples all over and there’s a party of hormones everywhere!

But at OfficeList we like to go against the odds and we’ll take it as a lucky number.
Why? Here are some hints.

  • Alex Rodriguez began wearing the number 13 upon joining the New York Yankees
  • Dan Marino, known for passing the 3rd most yards in NFL history, wore the number 13.
  • Shaquille O'Neal wore No. 13 in 1996
  • The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution officially outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude.
  • American founding father Benjamin Franklin wrote his famous aphorism, "Everything appears to promise that it will last; but in this world nothing is certain but death and taxes,"
The day is just starting, but we’ll do as Italians, who consider 13 a lucky number.

Have a great Friday 13!

New Executive Offices Available In Florida!

Regus Office Center in Hollywood, FL

Florida is known for its beaches, its warm weather and internationally Orlando is probably one of the most popular destinations. In other words, Florida is a synonym of fun and vacations.

But this is only a partial view of Florida’s economy. What few people know is the diversity of industries that consider the sunny state as their home.

Below are some interesting facts of the areas where we have new office centers:

Jacksonville: It’s known as a Transportation Hub and after Virginia; it’s one of the cities with most military presence as well as aviation.

Vero Beach: It’s not only famous for tourism. Did you know aviation is one of the industries that creates an important amount of employments?

Palm Beach Gardens: Home to several celebrities like the Williams sisters. But what makes this city important for executive suite providers is Aviation.

Delray Beach: North of Boca Raton and with several office centers, Delray Beach has suffered a building boom for the past 10 years.

Coral Springs: Mainly a residential area, but those who want to work close to home need a small office, that’s why offices in Coral Springs are expected to have low availability.

Hollywood: As part of Broward County, Hollywood and Coral Springs depend mainly on small companies that represent 70% of the local economy.

Coconut Grove: Several executive office suites can be found in the Coral Gables are but only 1 in the Coconut grove area.

Office Market: Top Cities with Rent Growth

Despite all the economic tension there has recently been due to the European crisis, to weak labor markets  and a slowed economy in the US, many are wondering what has happened with the office market. While some cities as San Francisco keep a steady growth, other cities face a half speed recovery.

Here are some highlight if the report published by REIS Inc:

·         National vacancy rates remained unchanged from the first quarter of 2012.
·         Asking and effective rent went down from 0.5 to 0.3% during the second quarter of the year.
·         There was 1.6 million Square feet of new supply. The weakest level of supply growth since 1999
Source: Reisreports.com

But these some cities continue to show rent growth and a steady market:

·         San Francisco
·         New York
·         Washington DC
·         San Jose
·         Boston
·         Austin
·         Seattle
·         Denver

Given that many technology companies are based out of San Francisco and surrounding areas as San Bruno and San Jose, that area is expected to have the greatest rent increase in the country this year.

We still have half of the year ahead of us; there might be more surprises, more acquisitions and more expansions.

You are working 45 more days!

According to a recent study from Good Technology, the average American is working 45 more days or 365 extra hours every year of overtime. The study reveals we are checking our work emails since 7Am until minutes before we go to sleep.

The study was made to 1000 workers and it also shows that 25% admitted to have disagreements with their couples, meaning this excess of work is also causing trouble in our personal lives and affecting our families.

Even though companies are more worried about work-life balance and employees are given more time with their family, remote offices and home offices are each day more common; we’re working even more time.

We’ve become technology-dependent and those that aren’t checking their personal email or looking at their friends activities in social networks, they are probably working from their phones.
Here are a few results from the survey:
  • 68 percent of people check their work emails before 8 a.m.
  • The average American first checks their phone around 7:09 a.m.
  • 50 percent check their work email while still in bed
  • The work day is growing – 40 percent still do work email after 10 p.m.
  • 69 percent will not go to sleep without checking their work email
  • 57 percent check work emails on family outings
  • 38 percent routinely check work emails while at the dinner table
Perhaps the best therapy to reduce stress and improve quality time with your family is to stay as disconnected from the office as possible. Give it a try!
